Common Air National Guard Questions:

What's the difference between the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve? The National Guard has a dual state-federal mission and can be called for domestic purposes (floods, fires, tornados, hurricanes, snowstorms, other natural disasters, riot control, security, and other law enforcement purposes). Each state has both an Air and Army National Guard, which go through the same training as active-duty Air Force or Army.

What's the difference between the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard? Air National Guard are each State's version of the U.S. Air Force, whereas the National Guard is the State's version of the U.S. Army. None are Federal but bounded by federal law and military custom.

I   thought that your base closed down? Previously a Navy installation named Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove, the base never "shut down." Instead, the host unit has become the Pennsylvania Air National Guard's 111th Attack Wing. Also, an Army Reserve unit and Army National Guard Unit reside on the grounds of Horsham AGS.

What happened to your airplanes? The 111th Attack Wing was the 111th Fighter Wing, which flew the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Now, the Wing has transiitoned into a cyber unit, serving as a control center for the MQ-9 remotely-piloted aircraft and providing engineering and electronics capabilities through specialized units.

Does Horsham Air Guard Station have a commissary, shoppette, lodging, etc? Nope, but Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has all of that (located approximately 16.1 miles south-southeast of Trenton, New Jersey). If searching for a phone number on that base, call the base operator at commercial: (609) 754-1100 or DSN: 312-650-1100.
